Summary

  • Bitwise launched self-custodied tokenized stock portfolios powered by Coinbase on Base.
  • Tokenized equities enable 24/7 trading on Base.
  • Self-custody ATPs reduce counterparty risk for non-US investors.

Bitwise launched three Automated Token Portfolios on the Base blockchain. That happened on August 25, 2026. Eligible non-U.S. investors now get direct access to tokenized stocks like Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Tesla and SpaceX.

The launch teams up Bitwise with Coinbase and Glider. They deliver these products onchain. Investors hold the keys themselves and get automatic rebalancing through Base.

"Tokenized stocks bring the same properties onchain, global access, 24/7 trading, and full composability across DeFi."

Context

Traditional stock trading runs only during set hours. It also depends on intermediaries who hold the assets for users. Tokenized stocks put equities on blockchain rails instead.

This change drops those limits. It lets users plug directly into DeFi protocols.

The August 25 rollout comes at a time when COIN and similar tokens show bullish momentum. Competition heats up among platforms pushing equities onchain. Regulatory questions still linger around these products.

Details

Bitwise created three distinct Automated Token Portfolios. Each one automatically manages allocations across the listed tokenized stocks. Every portfolio charges a 0.15 percent methodology fee and runs entirely on Base.

Investors keep the keys. Coinbase supplies the underlying tokenized stocks. Those stay backed 1:1 by real shares.

The same day Coinbase expanded stock trading to all U.S. users. That gives 24/5 access right alongside crypto holdings. Products stay limited to eligible non-U.S. investors.

Coinbase stock trading inside the United States follows separate 24/5 rules. It lacks the full DeFi composability available on Base.

Outlook

Regulators continue to review tokenized equities. That keeps the long-term scope of these offerings under watch. Market participants will next track trading volumes on Base and any further Coinbase expansions that connect traditional stocks with onchain tools.
